James Remmert
House Committee Chairman - Navy

Jim Remmert was born in Wichita, KS, raised in Birmingham, AL; and has lived in Tuscaloosa County since March of 1991. He enlisted in the Navy Reserve as a Seabee Builder on June 14, 1994. He qualified as a Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist (SCW) while assigned to Naval Construction Force Support Unit 3 (NCFSU3) in Gulfport, MS. He was selected for and advanced to Chief Petty Officer in 2004 while assigned to Navy Mobile Construction Battalion 24 (NMCB24) in Huntsville, AL. Shortly thereafter he was assigned to First Naval Construction Division (1NCD) at Little Creek, VA. In 2008 he mobilized in support of Overseas Contingency Operations and was focused on Training Seabees globally. He was advanced to Senior Chief during this mobilization. In 2011 he was assigned to deploy with USMC forces (IIMEF_FWD) to Helmand Province, AFG. He completed a successful deployment with Combined Joint Forces, assigned to Commander, Regional Command SW based at Camp Leatherneck traveling extensively throughout the area of operations managing multiple projects contracted to Afghan Contractors. He returned from this deployment after having been selected for advancement to Master Chief in April 2011. He was then further assigned as Alfa Company Chief (A5) at NMCB24, responsible for the Battalion’s Civil Engineer Support Equipment (CESE) table of allowance (TOA), helping to prepare the Battalion for decommissioning. During this tour, he and the Battalion were recognized by Admiral Handley for an exceptional Material Maintenance Management (3M) program. CUCM(SCW) Remmert’s last tour of duty was in Meridian, MS as Senior Enlisted Leader and acting Officer in Charge for Operational Support Unit (OSU) 0835. He retired on November 18, 2017 at Meridian, MS.

CUCM(SCW) (ret) Remmert has worked with his relatives in a family owned business, Remmert & Company, since March 1991. He has held several various positions within the company, currently he is responsible for purchasing all materials for the Architectural Woodworking business.  He has also worked part-time as an instructor for Fundamentals of Carpentry at Shelton State Community College.

CUCM(SCW) (ret) Remmert’s education includes study at John Carroll Catholic in Birmingham, where he graduated in 1976. Subsequently he attended Auburn University, the University of Alabama, and American Intercontinental University (Online).
